What was the purpose of the Memphis FRINGE?

Voices of South was established by co-founders Alice Berry and Jenny Madden as they prepared a theatrical production for the International Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, in1996 and 1997. The Fringe served as both inspiration and a driving force behind Voices of the South, contributing to its 30-year journey of global touring and its strong roots the Memphis Theatre Community. By launching the Memphis FRINGE Festival Voices of the South aimed to provide artists with opportunities to create and perform.
