Writers
Like so many theatre companies during the pandemic, Voices of the South faced an existential question. The answer? Go online not only with productions, such as Goddess of Tears, but also with its young Writers Cabaret. Would the TheatreSouth-based vibe of the writing jams translate online? To date, as demonstrated by more than 200 weekly online sessions among 10 core participants, averaging 3.5 hours each week of 20-minute freewriting from prompts; sharing the writing; and offering feedback: Yes!
This year, we are starting up monthly writing gatherings and all are welcome to join us. If you want to join the fun...
During the jams, writers have also collaborated on varied works, providing feedback, so far, including on Yale-Drama-Prize-winning this dry spell; the novel, Train to Cheyenne; and more, with no sign of stopping anytime soon! We've also enjoyed one another's relaxed company at two writers retreats to date, both graciously hosted by a member at her husband's and her lake house.
